Our Methodology

1Purpose and Scope

This methodology outlines the process used to identify businesses, charities, and other entities associated with those in fellowship with Bruce Hales and the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC). The goal is to provide transparency and clarity on the techniques and criteria used in developing the platform.

The platform does not claim to be exhaustive and is designed solely for informational purposes.

We verified that for every individual entity included in Brethren Intelligence we could:

  • Identify Key People
  • Identify they were in fellowship
  • Confirm the information was freely available in the public domain

2Data Sources

Our identification process draws from publicly available and verifiable data, including:

  • Corporate and business registries (e.g., Companies House UK, ASIC Australia)
  • Charity commission databases
  • Government tender and procurement data
  • Professional networking sites (e.g., LinkedIn)
  • Public websites of businesses
  • Archived materials and publications
  • User-submitted data (subject to verification)

3Criteria for Association with the PBCC

Entities are evaluated and potentially flagged as PBCC-affiliated based on the following indicators:

  • Shared directorship or ownership with known PBCC members
  • Surnames common to known PBCC families
  • Shared business addresses with known PBCC locations
  • References to PBCC in company mission statements, employment materials, or affiliations
  • Listing in known PBCC business directories or publications
  • Involvement with PBCC affiliated charities or foundations

No single indicator is used in isolation; associations are determined based on the accumulation of multiple criteria.

4Data Processing Techniques

  • Automated Matching: Natural Language Processing (NLP) and pattern recognition tools scan and match names, addresses, and affiliations across datasets.
  • Manual Verification: High-confidence matches are manually reviewed to confirm accuracy.
  • Deduplication: Duplicate entries or entities linked by multiple data points are consolidated.

5Accuracy and Limitations

While we believe the system identifies over 90% of known PBCC affiliated entities based on current methodologies, some inaccuracies may remain. We do not claim complete coverage.

Inclusion in the database does not imply any value judgment, nor does omission imply non-affiliation.

6Updates and Maintenance

Data is reviewed and updated quarterly, or more frequently in response to significant changes or credible user reports. Corrections are welcomed via our contact form.

7Ethical Considerations

  • The platform is designed to inform, not to harass or discriminate.
  • No personally identifiable information (PII) is displayed unless already publicly available.
  • Entities may request review or removal through a verification process via our contact form.

8Definition of Key People

For the purposes of this platform, key people are individuals identified as having a significant role in an entity associated with those in fellowship with Bruce Hales and the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Company directors, trustees, or senior executives
  • Founders or owners with decision-making authority
  • Individuals publicly representing the entity in media or official documents
  • Persons named as significant controllers in official registries

Inclusion as a key person is based solely on publicly available information or confirmed data from credible sources.
